Accu-SPINA® Displayed in International Museum of Surgical Science

February 2006: Accu-SPINA® model placed in the International Museum of Surgical Science.

The Accu-SPINA is one of over 7,000 medical instruments in this historic museum which overlooks Lake Michigan in Chicago, IL. The museum was opened in 1954 and is a division of the International College of Surgeons.

The building is listed in the National Register, Illinois Register of Historic Places, and is a City of Chicago landmark. It is the only Gold Coast mansion open to the public. Original interior finishes of marble and cut stone, decorative plaster work metal fixtures and hardware, eight fireplaces, and a gilded metal grand staircase are among the features which have been preserved.

North American Medical Corporation feels privileged to have been chosen to be part of the permanent exhibit entitled: The Universal Condition: Enduring and Alleviating Pain. The museum provides education on pioneering and innovative medical devices and has welcomed thousands of medical professionals from around the world.

After hearing about the addition of the Accu-SPINA® to the museum, Leon Brooks, MD of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA stated “This system will revolutionize the management of pain emanating from the spine. The non-surgical neurological spine rejuvenation program will not only reduce the need for back surgery, but will also help to reduce the high costs to industry and the American people in general”.

Other notable medical items include a 16th century Australian amputation saw with reversible blade, The Lindbergh perfusion pump (enabled physicians to keep organs functioning outside of the body), 19th century apothecary shop, heart valves, and an iron lung.
